Being selected to participate in the Whitney Young basketball program is a great honor and a huge opportunity, however being on the basketball team requires a lot of work because of the high level of demands placed upon every player. Players practice six days a week, averaging 3 or more hours per practice. The players are expected to show up to practice punctually, and be a good teammate, understanding their role and always do what is asked of them by the coaching staff.

Some of the players who were initially selected to play on the team left due to academic ineligibility and others because they could not keep up with the demands and challenges of balancing academics and sports.
