Whitney Young 6-0 Rolls Over Northside College Prep

It was a face off of the two most elite of the Chicago Public High School magnet system when the Whitney Young Dolphins traveled to the very far north side of the city for a game against Northside College Prep at Rogers Academic School Park, which is located at California and Touhy.

Northside likely felt they were never out of the game, but by the end of 7 innings it was clear they were never in this game being blanked by the sharper hitting and error-free Dolphins. The Northside Bronco's struggled to make plays and to get on base. Only three hits were given up by Jason Ormond (3-1-1 Save) who pitched another complete game. The line for the pitcher was 7IP - 0 Runs Scored, 3 Hits, 1 BB, and 8 K's. The Dolphins played a spotless game comitting no errors. A deining play for this game was a pick off play taht was orchestrated by the Third Baseman, Frank Gowder and Jason Ormond. This was Northsides best scoring opportunity and it was dashed by the Gowder/Ormond combination. Frank and Jason have played on together on the same baseball teams for 4 consecutive years.

Whitney Young 12-1 Over Foreman

The Sophomore Dolphins continue to roll!

Gabe Henreques was the winning pitcher in a game played at WYHS. 10 K's were recorded in 6 inning pitched. Andrew Platt came in to pitch in relief.

Whitney Young Wins a Double Header versus Grayslake High School

On May 6, it was the Grayslake High School sophomore team traveling into the city from just outside of Gurnee, Illinois for a doubleheader game and a picnic/barbeque at WYHS. The picnic/barbeque was hosted by the parents of the Dolphin players. It was good food, plenty of sun and two wins for the Dolphins.

Sophomore Sam Spitz made his debut for the 2006 season getting his arm back in shape, after a long and debilitating illness. Spitz pitched a near perfect game allowing only 2 Hits and going the distance to get the Win. The line for Spitz was 7 Innings Pitched; 1 Run on 2 Hits; 4 BB, 5-K's and 3-E's. The Dolphins were a bit casual on defense at times, but quickly made up for it with several impressive plays; two double plays were recorded.

In the 2nd Inning Spitz made two outstanding back to back plays to end the inning and a scoring threat by Grayslake. The first was an alert Double Play that was initiated by Spitz; 1-6-3 (Spitz-Gowder-Ormond). The next batter hit a ball that came back at Spitz sharply, who dove to make the stop and then make the throw to Ormond at First base to end the inning. In the first inning it was a 6-4-3 double play, that was initiated by Gabe Henreques which ended the inning (Henreques-Cinamon-Ormond). Buddy Herberg played a great defensive game behind the plate.

At the plate Jack Cinamon continued his hot hitting, going 2 for 3, with two singles and 1 RBI; Pedro Rosa - 2 singles and 1 RBI; Frank Gowder - Double and a Single and 1-RBI. Also with hits were Devyn Cullers and Jason Ormond who each had singles.
