Chicago Public League News
The Chicago Public League has realigned the conferences for the 2006 season and placed the top 13 teams in one conference with the others distributed out in area conferences.
Lane Tech, Harlan, Clemente, Simeon, Whitney Young, Kenwood, Northside Prep, Hyde Park, Mather, Foreman, Schurz, Lake View, and Von Stueben now make up the “Super Conference”
Last season Lane Tech won both the City Varsity Championship and Regional Championship
The plan to ban Aluminum bats from the Chicgo Public League play in 2007 stalled when the Baseball Committee deadlocked on a 7-7 vote. This was reported in the April 15, 2006 Chicago Tribune. According to varsity baseball coordinator Eddie Curry, coaches were concerned about the cost factor voted 7-6 against the plan. Curry's vote tied the balloting.
The group will meet again in two weeks to discuss the issue. Curry, said he has heard from schools accross the country concerning his plan to ban aluminum bats. He said that one solution is to gain funding from outside organizations and from Major league Baseball. "I will keep trying to find a way," he said.
