Sponsors of The Whitney Young Basketball Program

Members of the Whitney Young Freshman basketball team work the concessions for the sophomore and varsity games and for other basketball events that are hosted by Whitney Young such as the Class AA Basketball Sectional Games. Head Coach Snider, directs the set up, sales to customers and clean up following the event. The money that is raised helps pay for the expenses of the Whitney Young basketball program. Set up begins an hour and a half before the game begins, and the Freshman stay long after the game is over to clean up the concessions area.

Every player devotes many hours of time to working the concessions for numerous big games that have been played at Whitney Young High School. Because the Freshman are working concessions they do not watch the games since they are dealing with customers. Players take customers’ orders; prepare the hotdog's, nachos and drinks and deliver them. The players learn to work together as a team off the court to provide good customer service and how to deal with the challenges of dealing with a crowd who wants service during the peak rush between quarters or during the halftime.

The time players spend running concessions teaches them about the challenges of operating a small business and how much work is involved for an entrepreneurial business to suceed.

The 2006 Freshman team has raised more money selling concessions for the program than in any previous year.
